I'm starting to put together my orders for next year, and I want to make sure that we're getting books the kids will actually want to read ... especially next year's 6th graders. There's always a big dropoff in checkout activity between 5th and 6th. To that end, I had them go through my stack of book catalogs and make purchase recommendations. Here they are shopping:

THANK YOU SPIE!
Thanks to the generosity of SPIE, the library was able to use bookfair proceeds to acquire nearly two dozen in-demand titles from Scholastic. What a treat to get brand-new books in the middle of the year. THANK YOU!!!!
Here's a sneak peek of what we've got ... my plan is to add them to the catalog tomorrow before school. If you see this blog post today and want to borrow one of the books below, come see me first thing on Monday to place your hold!

New Books from DonorsChoose!
DonorsChoose is a fantastic web site that connects teachers who post projects with people who want to help out schools by donating money.
We've had several funded projects this year. Part of the thank-you package is sharing photos of the kids using the materials; I thought I would post some of them here as well.
(And if you'd like to help us get more Babymouse and Squish graphic novels, you can donate online.)

When I Grow Up ...
Help Inspire Students with Biographies
After picking through our dated biography section to find materials for third graders to use this year, I want to have updated, fun, friendly-looking books available next year. I have put together a DonorsChoose project to try and raise the funds to buy 17 picture book biographies. We're almost halfway to the goal.
If you can help, please click here to donate.
Thanks.

Elephant & Piggie Are Here!
I have started posting projects on DonorsChoose, which is a site that allows teachers to ask the world in general to support their classrooms. I am so happy that we've gotten THREE projects funded already!
The first was to bring the 20-volume Elephant & Piggie collection to Stadium. These books are by Mo Willems, creator of the Pigeon and a student favorite.
Room 5 students were the first to dive into the box of new books. Here they are:
Yesterday, I introduced first graders to the series. Here is Room 1 ...
They are trying out Elephant & Piggie's dance moves, which are found at this link. Have your own dance party at home!

THANK YOU SPIE!
Thanks to the generosity of Shelley Fusco and SPIE, the library was able to use bookfair proceeds to acquire dozens of in-demand titles from Scholastic.
Everything you see below (well, except for the math picture books that will be used for teaching) has already been checked out. I'm not sure how I managed to leave Haunted Houses out of the picture ... not only is it out, but 15 students have placed holds on it! What a treat to get brand-new books in the middle of the year. THANK YOU!!!!
